Meet the Sonim XP7 Extreme smartphone, the Most Rugged LTE Android Smartphone yet

Prominent manufacturer of Rugged smartphones, Sonim has announced what it calls the most rugged smartphone – the Sonim XP7. The XP7 is said to have everything extreme – extreme battery life, extreme usage, extreme conditions, Android 4.4 Kitkat OS powered and supports LTE connectivity. The company as part of the ‘Flexible Funding program’ is seeking funds via the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise $150,000.

Asides coming with a 3-year warranty, the device is resistant to oil, chemicals, shock, impact; dust, dirt, sand, mud proof; can be submerged in up to 2 meters of water (including salt water); and can drop on concrete from 6.5 feet (2 meters).

If you are looking for beauty, then the device is not for you. The Sonim XP7 is expected to packs a 4-inch 480 x 800 pixels resolution display with Gorilla Glass Display. Under the hood is a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, LTE and 3G connectivity, 8 MP rear camera, Bluetooth 4.0, 1 MP front-facing camera, loud speaker (103dB) and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/r.

A 4800mAh battery powers the device; it is expected to provide up to 40 hours of talktime, a stand-by time of up to 1000 hours / 41 days. It measures 137 x 72.1 x 20.8mm, weighs 290g and runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.

To get your hands on the Sonim XP7 you can contribute $579 to the company’s Indiegogo campaign. The rugged LTE handset is expected to start shipping by March 2015 with a microUSB adapter, a “Sonim Explorer virtual goodie bag” and an Ultra Mobile SIM (+ $49 prepaid credit in the US Only).
