Meizu has debuted the first smartphone from its all-new ‘A series’ family – the Meizu A5 (or Meizu Meilan A5) in China. The low mid-tier smartphone, just like the Meizu M5c, sports a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS HD display with 2.5D curved glass and comes pre-loaded with Flyme OS 6.0 (presumably based on Android 7.0 Nougat OS) but skips a fingerprint sensor which is readily available on similar smartphones within the same range.
Priced at CNY 699 (US$ 105), the Meizu A5 is powered by a 64-bit quad-core Mediatek MT6737 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB RAM. It has Hybrid Dual SIM slots (nano + nano/microSD) and 16GB built-in storage space (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card).
For photography, there is a rear facing 8MP camera with dual-tone LED Flash, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), and f/2.0 aperture alongside a front facing 5MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture. Connectivity options on the A5 include – 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and GPS / GLONASS.
The Meizu A5 weighs 140 grams, measures 144 x 70.5 x 8.3 mm and is backed by a 3,060mAh battery, which is expected to last over a day of mixed usage. It arrives in Black Matte, Champagne Gold and Silver colours.
