Meizu has added a new budget smartphone – the Meizu M5 to its device portfolio in China. The 4G LTE enabled 5-incher, which has already gone on pre-order in the home country, takes over from the Meizu M3 which has a number of variants (M3E, M3S and M3 Max) under its belt.
Pre-installed with Yun OS 5.1 layered with FlyMe 5.5 UI, the Meizu M5 sports 5.2-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD 2.5D curved glass display, Hybrid Dual SIM slots (Nano + Nano/microSD), support for 4G LTE connectivity with VoLTE and a 3070mAh battery, which should last up to a day or more of usage.
Packed in a plastic polycarbonate body, the device relies on an octa-core Mediatek MT6750 64-bit processor clocked at 1.5 GHz with Mali-T860 GPU, 3GB built-in storage space and 32GB built-in expandable storage space. There is a less expensive option with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage space.
Photography is handled by a rear facing 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), 5P lens and dual-tone LED flash along with a front facing 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4P lens. It measures 147.28 × 72.8 × 8.15 mm in dimensions, weighs 138 grams and the home button housess the mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor.
The base Meizu M5 model with 2GB RAM/16GB storage costs CNY 699 (US$ 103) while the upper model (3GB RAM / 32GB storage) costs CNY 899 (US$ 132). It arrives in Champagne Gold, Matte Black, Mint Green, Glacier White and Sapphire Blue colour options.
