Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition launched in China for CNY 1799

Meizu has finally made the Ubuntu Edition of the flagship MX4 smartphone; the device was showcased earlier this year the MWC 2015. The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is available in China for CNY 1799 ($290, €253) directly from the Meizu website. The device is expected to start selling across Europe soon and a Chinese Edition is scheduled for later this year.

The Meixu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is the second smartphone running the Ubuntu OS, with the first being the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition. The device runs on Ubuntu Touch OS which entirely gesture based (scopes) and does not use the buttons below the screen including the Home Button. Apps for the device can be downloaded from the Ubuntu Store which has over 1300 scopes and apps. 

Moving to the specs, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is the same as the Android OS running version. It keeps the same 5.36-inch 1152 x 1920 pixels IPS display with pixel density of 418 ppi and is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6595 SoC (four 2.2GHz Cortex-A17 cores and four 1.7GHz Cortex-A7 cores) with PowerVR G6200MP4 GPU.

On the original version you could choose either 16GB/64GB internal storage which is not expandable. This model only uses the 16GB internal storage variant and 2GB of RAM handles the tasks at hand. On the rear, there is a 20.7MP with Dual LED flash and a front facing 2MP camera for selfies and video chats. The MX4 Ubuntu Edition is backed by a 3100mAh battery and there is an option to choose either Gold or White colour.
