Meizu Pro 5 goes official with Exynos 7420, up to 4GB RAM and USB Type-C

Meizu has officially announced the Meizu Pro 5 phablet at a special event in Beijing. The company’s latest flagship heralds a new series of PRO devices (without the well known MX moniker) and continues the association with Samsung as the Exynos Chipset is used as well an AMOLED display panel.

Moving to the specs, the Meizu Pro 5 sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD) with 2.5D Curved Glass ontop and a pixel density of 387ppi. The device is powered by a Samsung Exynos 7420 octa-core processor with Mali T760 MP8 GPU; the processor allows the device notch a score over 70,000 on AnTuTu benchmark and is the same used on flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note5.

The device has either 3GB or 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB internal storage option. For additional storage, both storage option has a microSD card slot for expansion. In charge of photography, the Pro 5 has a 21MP PDAF camera with Sony IMX230 sensor and front facing 5MP camera with OmniVision OV5670 sensor for selfies.

Running Flyme 5.0 OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, the Meizu Pro 5 has a fingerprint scanner and for quality HIFI Sound audio experience, it makes use of the ES9018 signal processor and OPA1612 headphone amplifier. The company also debuted an in-ear headphones called the EP31 which costs CNY 199 ($32).

The device draws energy through a USB Type-C Port and is backed by a 3050mAh battery with company’s mCharge fast charging technology which assures up to 65% (from 0%) in 30 minutes. Connectivity options includes – Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, BDS/GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS and 4G LTE /3G HSPA+ connectivity.

The Pro 5 measures 156.7 x 78 x 7.5mm in dimensions and weighs 168 grams. The device itself will be released on October 12th and Flyme OS which is much more faster than the Flyme 4.5 will arrive on November 12th but the beta version will be already available in China by then (October 12) . 

In terms of pricing, the 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage version of the Meizu Pro 5 costs CNY 2800 ($439) while the 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage version costs CNY 3100 ($486). Available colour options include Black, Gold, Gray and Silver.
