Meta Quest 3: Meta Announce Oculus Quest 2 VR Successor

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and other endeavors, has announced its latest standalone virtual and mixed reality headset – the Meta Quest 3 (Oculus Quest 3). It is the successor to the Oculus Quest 2 (Meta Quest 2) and as expected, offer several improvements including the highest resolution display yet, improved graphical performance and 40-percent thinner build.

The latest version of the Quest headset is powered by a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, which delivers double the graphical performance of the Quest 2. It is equipped with dual 4MP RGB color cameras, a depth sensor and 10x more pixels in Passthrough to deliver state-of-the-art visuals. The Touch Plus controllers has been redesigned to look more streamlined, TruTouch haptics has been introduced, and the outer tracking rings has been gotten rid of.

The base Meta Quest 3 model is available in 128GB, with the option to add extra storage. It is backwards compatible with all the available game titles on Quest 2. It will be available later this year in supported countries and regions such as Australia, New Zealand, the U.S and the U.K for a US$ 499.99 (AU$829.99/ NZ$929.99) price tag.

Meta has also taken the opportunity to lower the price of the Meta Quest 2 to $299.99 USD and $349.99 USD respectively for the 128GB and 256GB storage models. Both the Quest 2 and Quest Pro will receive a future software update which would boost CPU and GPU performance; and enable Dynamic Resolution Scaling.

Facebook acquired Oculus in March 2014 and after multiple rebranding and restructuring, the brand has been phased out for the company’s new parent name, Meta. The Oculus store is now known as the Meta Quest store and community platforms belonging to Oculus has taken on the Horizon brand.
