Microsoft announces Office apps for Windows 10 smartphones

Microsoft has been hard at work on the Unified Windows 10 OS platform which would run across PC, Tablets, smartphones and even gaming consoles like Xbox One. The company has announced it is about to launch new ‘touch-friendly’ apps for Windows smartphones.

This move is said to be aimed at the upcoming Windows 10 smartphones and this update will be available in the Windows 10 Technical Preview for Windows Phones by the end of April. The new apps will work across all the aforesaid platforms above from the PC to smartphone.

Microsoft already has ‘touch-friendly’ Office apps for iOS – iPads and iPhones, Android tablets, and is already available in the Windows 10 Preview for PC. The low market share of the Windows Phone Os has contributed to it being the last to get the touch-based Office apps.

Using Office apps – Word documents, Excel spreadsheet and Powerpoint presentations  on smartphones to be honest is not a straightforward experience but since other platforms are getting it why shouldn’t Windows smartphones too.

The app is expected to be free for basic editing and those who want more can’t opt for the Advanced features which is only available when users sign-up for the paid Office 365 subscription.

Extra: Microsoft is said to be working on four new smartphones – two flagship and two midrange. All four device would run on Windows 10 OS from the onset which means we could start seeing them from Q3 2015.
