Microsoft has officially announced that Cortana would be going cross-platform; the Windows Exclusive device would not only be available on Windows 10 (for PC and Mobile), it would also be available on Android and iOS.
The Redmond giant refers to ‘Cortana’ as a ‘Home Companion App’ which would be looking to compete against the Google Now (Android) and SiRi (iOS) on their own home turfs. The Cortana app for Android and iOS would basically have all the functions their Windows Phone counterpart would be using however there would likely be some limitations due to the fact that Cortana is built into the Windows OS – Windows Phones and PCs.
Microsoft has integrated Cortana into Windows 10 OS experience and also Microsoft Edge browser. The Cortana app for PC does the same function as the Cortana app for the relevant mobile platforms. It helps in several aspects such as setting reminders, searching for information on the Web or your phone, tracking route, dictating email and more.
The Cortana app for not yet available on either Google Play Store or iTunes App Store; Android users is expected to get it by the end of June and iOS users at a later point this year. The update would be available on the Windows Insider Program in coming weeks.
