Microsoft has announced the availability of Cortana for Android, iOS and Cyanogen with the company continuing it’s bid for the personal assistant app to go cross platform. image

Cortana was previously available in preview mode for both Android and iOS but is now available to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. To install the app, the phone companion app on Windows 10 PC helps with the process and it works best when used with its desktop counterpart.

The Cortana app works with smartphones running Android 4.1.2 (and up) and iOS 8 (and up). It is said to be fully featured but some of the features of Cortana on Windows Phones such as ‘Hey Cortana’ when using the app hands-free and toggling settings or opening apps, are not available on Android or iOS.

Microsoft also announced that the future iteration of Cyanogen OS will come with Cortana deeply integrated with most of the features available. Cortana will start rolling out with the Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 OTA update to OnePlus One users in the US this December.

Utilising the partnership with Cyanogen, the Cortana app for Cyanogen OS will come with deeper integration than the Android and iOS versions. ‘Hey Cortana’ will work when immersed in the app or when on the screen, Cortana will also be able to toggle network mode, turn on Quiet mode, switch off the phone and do other functions.
