Microsoft has locally announced three new Lumia 4G LTE enabled smartphones – the Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL and Lumia 430 Dual SIM into the South African market.
Two of the smartphones would be available on contracts – the Lumia 640 Single SIM costs R199, the Lumia 640 Dual SIM costs R219 and the Lumia 640XL Dual SIM costs R269. The Lumia 430 sells for R999 without contract.
Commenting on the launch, Shaun Durandt, Microsoft Mobile Devices’ South African sales lead said:
“People are looking for a phone which brings them more flexibility to switch easily between work and play, without breaking the bank.”
The Microsoft Lumia 640 and Microsoft Lumia 640XL are both powered by the same Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. The former has 8MP rear camera, 1MP front camera and 2000mAh battery while the latter has 13MP rear camera, front 5MP camera and 2400mAh battery.
The Microsoft Lumia 430 Dual SIM is the first under R1000 Lumia smartphone released in South Africa. Under the hood, it is powered by a Dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and has 4-inch WVGA display.
All three devices run on Windows Phone 8.1 and comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office, Skype, OneDrive storage – One year subscription to Office 365 Personal which costs R750 and 1TB free of OneDrive storage.
