Even though it’s been a while we saw a flagship smartphone from the Lumia brand (now owned by Microsoft); the company has released over eight smartphones in the midrange and low-end category since it took charge. The company has added a new smartphone into the mix, the Microsoft Lumia 430 is the cheapest and most affordable Lumia device yet.
The Microsoft Lumia 430 costs $70; for that price range if you were expecting spectacular specs then you are absolutely wrong. It sports a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) WVGA LCD display with a pixel density of 235ppi. Under the hood it is powered by the rather dated dual-core Qualcomm snapdragon 200 processor which clocks at 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM has been put in place to prevent any issues running some apps once the OS is upgraded to Windows 10.
There is 8GB space of internal storage and a microSD card slot is on-board for storage expansion (up to 128GB more). The main camera is a 2MP unit and there is a front facing VGA (0.3MP) camera on-board. The device sports the usual standard connectivity options – Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Proximity sensor option is also available on the device.
The Microsoft Lumia 430 comes with Dual SIM functionality and runs on Windows 8.1 OS with Lumia Denim update – users would have access to upgrade to Windows 10 OS for phones once it is globally available. It weighs 127.9 grams, measures 120.5 x 63.19 x 10.63 mm in dimensions, and is backed by a 1500mAh battery which stays about 19 days of standby time and 8.4 hours of talktime.
Microsoft also included most of its own apps on-board such as Microsoft Office, OneDrive cloud storage (up to 30GB free cloud space), and Skype For IM; games like Candy Crush Saga and Minecraft Pocket Edition would also be available on it.
Judging by the specs, the Lumia 430 looks like an apparent upgrade to the Microsoft Lumia 530 smartphone with more RAM and internal storage space. Most Windows Phone OS devices always have the advantage of performing very well despite their modest hardware configuration.
Going back to the price – it costs $70 before tax and subsidies, the Microsoft Lumia 430 would be available in Black and Orange colour options; sales would start by April in India, Russia, Kazhakstan, Belarus, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.
Since Microsoft Sells its smartphones in Nigeria and the country is a Dual SIM loving one, the Lumia 430 is expected to be available for around N14,000 to N16,000 in Nigerian Naira (due to current day conversion rate) when it is eventually available.
