Microsoft Lumia 950 XL goes official with 5.7-inch QHD display, octa-core SoC and Windows 10 Mobile

Along with the Lumia 950, the more powerful Microsoft Lumia 950 XL phablet was announced. The latter is not only larger but also has a better processing power compared to the former. The device will arrive in November for a price tag of  $649 (off contract) in Black and White colour options.

Moving to the specs, the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL sports a 5.7-inch (2560 x 1440) QHD AMOLED display, a pixel density of 518ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Both Glance screen tech and ClearBack technology are also included, the former for viewing notifications by glancing at your phone while the latter for better outdoor visibility. 

The device is powered by the over-heating plagued octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor but Microsoft has added liquid cooling to calm things down. The chipset is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. For additional storage, the device has a microSD card slot which supports cards up to 200GB.

With the aid of the Microsoft Display Dock, the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL can take things from mobile to desktop with the continuum feature. The device is devoid of a fingerprint scanner but has an iris scanner located above the screen which uses the Windows Hello for biometric authentication. 

Handling photography is a 20MP f/1.9 Pureview camera with OIS and triple RGB flash; the front facing camera is a 5MP f/2.4 snapper for selfies. Connectivity options on the device includes – Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, reversible USB Type-C 3.1 connector and 4G LTE.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL measures 151.9 x 78.4 x 8.1mm in dimensions, weighs 165 grams, runs Windows 10 Mobile and is backed by a non-removable 3340mAh battery with fast charging and wireless charging features. 

There is also a Dual SIM version of the device called Microsoft Lumia 950 XL Dual SIM with Dual Nano SIM slots.
