The Microsoft Office Lens App for Android is now available for download on Google Play Store. Last month, the company announced the Office Lens App for Android and iOS. The iOS version of the app was available immediately for download while the Android version was in preview mode (in Google+ community).
The Microsoft Office Lens turns the Android, iPhone or Windows Phone into a pocket scanner; it lets you turn existing images into Word document, PDF and even Powerpoint. It makes use of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology and automatically saves its output to OneDrive, OneNote or even on the device memory.
“Basically, the Office Lens turns your Android, iPhone or Windows Phone into a pocket scanner that works “flawlessly,” delivers “crystal clear images” and does an “excellent job of transcribing a printed page, despite edge distortion (page from a hardcover book).”
The Microsoft Office Lens for Android supports devices running Android 4.1 JellyBean OS and above. Around 130,000 Google+ community previewers participated with around 270 different make of phones and just under 2600 models. As such, Microsoft expected there would be a smooth user experience on this platform.
Since the release of the iOS version it has seen over 1.3 million download and around 70,000 downloads for the Android version in its preview mode. The Windows Phone version has gathered over 3.5 million downloads considering it was launched in 2014.
