Microsoft has ditched the so called ‘Windows 9’ and opted straight to announce the Windows 10 as the successor of the Windows 8.1. The newly announced OS will come with all the specs purportedly attributed to the next Windows OS (the un-arriving Windows 9, WindowsTH, Windows One or Windows X) codenamed ‘Threshold’.
The New OS was announced at an event in San Francisco, and has been designed to work across all platforms be it phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, games to computer servers. The OS is also designed to suit both touchscreen devices and Keyboard (and mouse) devices.
Users heavily criticised the Windows 8 due to the radical changes the OS offered compared to the Windows 7. Microsoft has returned to the drawing board with the Windows 10, by returning the traditional Start menu and Metro Tiled like start menu on the desktop; thus looks like an apparent mixture of Windows 7 and the Windows 8.
The Windows 10 as expected would work across different varieties of devices from phones to gaming consoles. The company currently has Windows 8 for its desktop+tablet, Windows Phone 8 for phones and XBox for its Gaming console. By unifying the OS, developers would be able to create an app that would work across all platforms. This makes switching between Windows OS run devices very easy as users won’t have to bother with purchasing same app different times on different platforms.
The Windows 10 is available through the Windows Insider Program for Pros and Experts who want to access the technical preview of the OS for Desktop and tablets before its public release. The final Build of the Windows 10 would be available come mid-2015.
