As part of showing off the Windows 10 OS; Microsoft has announced that the OS would be a unified platform which will see it run on Smartphones, tablets and larger devices -Notebooks (8-inch screens and above).
This simply means the same app that runs on the desktop would also work seamlessly on mobile. Developers would be able to churn out apps which would work on desktop, tablets, smartphones and even on XBox.
The people app works across all devices and let’s users aggregate contacts. The app also ease making quick calls either on Skype or regular calls. There would also be Office Apps – Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Photos is another app which sync photos across multiple platforms and sync with OneDrive storage.
Personal assistant feature – Cortana has always been available on Windows Phones (available in select countries) would now be available on PC. Cortana would lets you fix appointments, dictate messages and notes, ask your computer questions and more. Cortana for PC would be available in the next few months.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 was used to demo the OS; whic means the device would probably be the first to get the Windows 10 OS. During the first year of availability, Windows Phone 8.1 users can upgrade to the Windows 10 OS for free.
The next preview build of the Windows 10 would be available by the end of January and the first build for Windows phones would be available by early February.
