Microsoft Announce Windows 11 OS – Redesigned Interface, Android App Support

Microsoft has announced Windows 11, its next significant update to the Windows 10. The new OS is expected to arrive by Fall 2021 with a redesigned and simplified interface, new Microsoft Store with Android app support and Widgets with AI-based curation. It will be available as a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs and on new PCs.

With Windows 11, Microsoft has simplified the interface and moved both the Start Button and Taskbar to the centre of the screen. The Start Button utilize the power of cloud and Microsoft 365 to compile recent files regardless of the platform it was last access from. The OS will introduce new tools such as Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, and Desktops to create different desktops for different needs. Users will also be able to snap apps side by side with these tools.

The Chats feature from Microsoft Teams will be available directly from the Taskbar for connecting with contacts across Windows, Android or iOS. Game lovers can tap into features such as DirectX 12 Ultimate, DirectStorage and Auto HDR, and access high quality PC games via Xbox Game Pass for PC or Ultimate. The OS comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Edge browser and Widgets will use AI to curate news and information such as news and weather.

Finally, Windows 11 will also support Android apps largely due to Microsoft’s partnership with Amazon and Intel (Intel Bridge technology). Android apps will be available to search for their preference on Microsoft Store and download them via the Amazon Appstore.
