Microsoft could be looking to either replace the Internet Explorer or could launch a new lightweight browser. The new browser is reportedly codenamed ‘Spartan’ and could potentially be the new browser for Windows 10.
ZdNet reports that the software giant is working on a lightweight browser for Windows 10 codenamed Spartan; the said browser will use Microsoft’s Chakra JavaScript engine and Trident rendering engine (not WebKit). The new browser will borrow some leaf from Firefox, Chrome and it would also support extensions.
Microsoft would not totally eradicate the Internet explorer as the I.E 11 is said to ship alongside the supposed new ‘Spartan’ browser on Windows 10 (Desktop version) while Spartan would be available for the mobile version (phones/tablets).There is no word whether the Spartan browser would be compatible with Android, iOS or other non-windows OS devices.
Spartan is not the final name of the browser but there is no word on the official name yet. The browser may be shown off at the next Microsoft event on January 21 where it is expected to show off the Windows 10 features.
