Unlike the uncertainty surrounding the suspended high-end Samsung Z smartphone running on Tizen OS; sources confirm that Samsung is near launching its first low-end smartphone running on the Tizen OS. The expected smartphone is codenamed Samsung SM-Z130H; internally known as KIRAN but does not have a final name yet.
The Samsung SM-Z130H would runs on Tizen 2.3 OS which has a user interface (UI) similar to the company’s TouchWiz UI used on most of its galaxy smartphones. Samsung is expected to includes features exclusive to its Galaxy line of devices like the Private Mode and the Ultra Power Saving Mode; it would come pre-installed with some Google Apps, Facebook and Twitter.
The Samsung SM-Z130H (KIRAN) is expected to feature a 4-inch 480 x 800 pixels TFT display, powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum SC7727S processor, 512 MB of RAM, 3.2 MP rear camera with LED flash, front-facing VGA camera (0.3MP), Wi-Fi, FM Radio, Bluetooth 4.0, Dual SIM functionality but no word on the internal storage or even if it has a microSD card slot.
The device only uses the accelerometer sensor and has Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0 (for charging and syncing the device) connectivity options.
India is the first destination, the Samsung SM-Z130H is said to be headed possibly to tackle the low-end Android One smartphones from Google. The device is said to launch before the end of the year (a possible November or December 2014 launch date). There is no availability or pricing details yet but it is expected to be in the very affordable range.
The question would be – Would users dump low-end Android devices for similar Tizen OS powered devices? Only time would tell.
