Recently, Motorola announced the Moto X Style and Moto X Play; while the former would be available unlocked in the US as the Moto X Pure Edition, the company confirmed the Moto X Play would not be available officially in the US. How about buying the same device under a different name?
According to a new report, the Motorola Moto X Play might be launching the in the US as the Motorola Droid Maxx 2. Coming with the ‘Droid’ branding means the midranger would be a Verizon exclusive device and also with such a huge 3630mAh battery, it willingly qualifes as a worthy successor to the Motorola Droid Maxx.
Before the end of the year, Verizon and Motorola are expected to announce both the Droid Maxx 2 and also the Droid Turbo 2. There are chances that the Verizon-exclusive Droid Turbo 2 could be a re-branded version of the flagship Moto X Style but with the device launching in the US as the Moto X Pure Edition, that looks highly unlikely.
There is no official confirmation from either Verizon or the Lenovo-owned Motorola but going by possible occurrences in the past and a reasonable level of trust for the source of the leak which happens to be a Hong Kong based Motorola leakster (HelloMotoHK). There are chances this could turn out real and as it is with all chances, it could turn out otherwise.
