Motorola Moto X Play with 21MP camera and 3630mAh battery announced

Along with the Moto G 2015 and Moto X Style, Motorola announced a midranger – the Motorola Moto X Play. The device would be available at some point in August 2015; markets in Europe, Latin America and Canada but not the US will get the device. There is no word on pricing and available in Asia and Africa is unknown yet.

The Motorola Moto X Play smartphone is a midrange smartphone which is rocks a simplistic look and is customisable via the Moto Maker with different colours, metal frames and engravings.

It features a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) FHD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.7GHz with Adreno 406 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

There is a choice of either 16GB or 32GB internal storage space with a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 128GB). On the rear, there is a 21MP camera with Dual Tone LED flash and a front facing 5MP camera.

The Moto X Play measures 148 x 75 x 8.9-10.9mm in dimensions, weighs 169 grams and runs stock looking Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS. Connectivity options on the device includes – Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and 4G LTE/3G.

The Motorola Moto X Play is backed by a bigger 3630mAh battery compared to the 3000mAh on the Moto X Style; the battery can provide up to 48 hrs of mixed usage. It supports Motorola’s Turbo Charging technology with a Turbo Power 25 charger bundled along.

Like other Motorola devices, the Moto X Play has Moto Voice, Moto Assist, Moto Display and Moto Actions. It supports the Quick capture gesture which allows you flick your wrist to open the camera and flick your wrist again to take a selfie.
