Move Over Kitkat, Google announces Android 5.0 Lollipop

Google has taken the lid off its next generation of mobile OS, the Android 5.0 Lollipop (previously called Android 5.0 or Android L). The Android 5.0 Lollipop was announced along with the next generation of nexus devices – the Motorola-built Nexus 6, the HTC-built Nexus 9 and the ASUS-built Google Nexus player; the OS will power the aforementioned devices.

The Lollipop (Android 5.0) moniker succeeds Kitkat (Android 4.4) but was previously rumoured to be the Android 4.5. Asides the newly announced Nexus devices (Nexus 6 and Nexus 9), Android 5.0 Lollipop is said to be available on Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10, and Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks.

Google has made major improvements on the Android 5.0 Lollipop that it would not only work on Phones and tablets, it would also power Televisions, watches and In car entertainment systems. The main feature of the Android 5.0 is the material design with major visual enhancements and revamps in user interface.

Motorola has announced that the Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini would all get the Android 5.0 Lollipop soon. We expect other smartphone makers to follow suit in coming days.
