Apparently, some weeks ago we got info stating a Firefox OS is in the works and would be manufactured by LG and released exclusively on KDDI carrier in Japan. Today Mozilla and KDDI have announced the first Firefox OS smartphone in Japan, the LG Fx0.
It is most high-end Firefox OS smartphone around even though it just has mid-range specs. The LG Fx0 sports a 4.7-inch 720 x 1280 pixels display with pixel density of 312ppi. Under the hood is a quad-core Qualcomm snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 306 GPU and 1.5GB of RAM.
The LG Fx0 is designed by World renowned Tokujin Yoshioka and it imbibes the core values of Mozilla and Firefox OS which is openess, freedom and transparency.
Commenting on the launch, Takashi Tanaka, President of KDDI says;
“We are very pleased to bring the first Firefox OS smartphone, based on Web technology standards, to the Japanese market today. KDDI hopes to build the new era of the Web through Web of Things, enabling everyone to create custom connected Web experiences.”
The LG Fx0 would be available in Japan starting December 25th; the new Firefox OS update is said to bring support for NFC, 4G LTE and WebRTC. The device would run on Firefox 2.0 OS, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (up to 64GB), 8MP rear camera and a front facing 2.1MP camera.
It’s physical dimension is 139 x 70 x 10.5mm, it weighs 148 grams and runs on a 2370mAh battery. The home button is said to be decorated with the Firefox logo with its only colour option being Gold. The LG Fx0 is available for $416 (50,000 Yen) which is way higher than how much similar Firefox OS sells for.
