It’s is very hard to come across a Mac, Linux or Windows OS powered PCs (Laptops inclusive) without the Mozilla Firefox and it has extended it tentacles across Android and Firefox OS running devices. However, you can not find the Firefox browser on any iOS powered device.
Mozilla has revealed it is working on a Firefox experience for iOS after earlier being at odd with Apple. This means the company is ready to follow Apple’s third party apps rule. This rule simply means Mozilla would ditch it’s Gecko rendering engine for Webkit rendering engine used on the Cupertino giant’s platform.
It is a known fact that duo to security reasons Apple only allows third party apps use the WebKit rendering engine. Apple’s Safari browser for iOS uses its WebKit rendering engine; thus for any company to place its app on the App Store it has to follow due procedure and this doesn’t exclude Mozilla.
iOS users won’t be too fazed as the Firefox browser would only provide similar features as the Safari browser for iPhone, iPads or the iPod touch. It is said to come with Firefox Sync which allows users who use the desktop version being able to Sync data, password, bookmarks between the iOS device and the laptop or desktop device.
Firefox for iOS is still in its early stages but like any Mozilla project it is being developed in the open. Early codes of the browser has surfaced online but this could dramatically change when the browser is near completion and ready to be included in the App store.
