Privacy Firm, Silent Circle recently announced it has acquired the services of Geekphone; both companies collaborated on the original Blackphone secure smartphone. The company has announced the successor at the ongoing MWC 2015 – the Blackphone 2 alongside a its first ever Blackphone tablet – the 7-inch Blackphone+.
The Blackphone 2 is said to come with a faster processor, more memory, better battery life and a bigger display. It packs a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection and powered by 64-bit octa-core chipset of unknown make. The smartphone uses a microSD card slot, 3GB of RAM, LTE connectivity and a non-removable 3060mAh battery which also has fast charging features.
The device runs on PrivatOS 1.1 which is very secure even though is based on Android OS. It comes with Spaces UI which allows you to differentiate and password different parts of the Android device. The smartphone costs around $649, same pricing as the original model.
The company didn’t reveal much about the Blackphone+; it is tipped be the world’s first ever privacy focused tablet. It has a 7-inch display and powered by an unannounced Qualcomm chipset.
Both products come with Silent Circle products such as Silent Meeting (for encrypted conference calls including multiple people) and the company’s software for encrypted voice and video chats, text messaging and contacts management. The company is also pushing its Silent Store app store where it would provide softwares the company has vetted and Silent Manager – a web based tool which allows employers manage the software and apps employees get on their handset.
The Blackphone 2 will go on sale by July 2015 and the Blackphone+ in the fall.
