HTC has made its first wearable into the market – the HTC Grip and the company also took the wraps off its virtual reality heasdet – HTC Vive.
HTC Grip
While most of use have anticipated a Android Wear smartwatch to rival its cohorts in the game, the HTC Grip is a just a GPS enabled fitness tracker which is an ideal companion for the fitness conscious and athletes alike. It records sleep pattern, calories burned for different activities and workouts; it records in time, distance and speed.
The device also has notification features which means you get messages alerts (read and respond), skip the next song and call notifications. It comes pre-loaded with UnderArmour app which takes stats when paired with Android (Android 4.3 OS and up) and iOS (iOS 7 and up). The body is IP57 certified (waterproof), it can survive under water for up to 1metre in 30mins; packs 100mah battery which lasts around 5hours of battery life in sport mode (with GPS) and around 3 days of battery life in non-sport mode.
HTC Grip is available in three bands options and two band colour options – Deep Teal and Lime. It would be available in stores by Spring for $199 price tag.
HTC Vive
The HTC Vive is the company’s first Virtual reality headset, it is developed in conjunction with Valve which would see the headset debut later in 2015.
HTC would partner with companies such as HBO, Google and more to make more contents available for the virtual headset. A developer edition would be available by spring while a final version would be available before the end of the year. There is no word on pricing yet.
Unlike the Samsung Gear VR which is a virtual housing for a smartphone, the Vive is a fully functional VR headset. The device is covered in over 70 sensors which allows for full 3D room tracking. This function is called “Full Room Scale 360 Degree Solution with Tracked Controllers” which allows user explore objects from all angles.
HTC Vive sports two 1200 x 1080 pixels display (one for each eye), super audio quality, 90fps videos, and connects with two wireless controllers which allows users play games and explore the virtual world through the headset.
