Gionee took to the MWC 2016 to announce a new logo and the high-end Gionee S8 smartphone. The metal-clad device is the company’s flagship for the year and will arrive before the end of March for a price tag of EUR 449.
Also the company has rebranded with a new simplified Logo and Byline which reads ‘Make Smiles’.
The Gionee S8 has a full loop metal design which sees the antenna, around the side of the body, offering low interference and full band coverage; and is one of the narrowest 5.5-inch phone currently in the market measuring about 74.9mm wide.
It sports a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD AMOLED display with 2.5D Glass and the 3D Touch feature on the iPhone has been replicated. It recognises three levels – Touch (selects), Tap (previews) and Press (Opens). Also, the Edge Bar feature that allows users select apps by pressing the edge.
The Mediatek Helio P10 octa-core processor sits under the hood along with 4GB of RAM, 64GB built-in storage space and a 3000mAh battery with 9V/2A fast charger. The S8 has Dual SIM slots, supports LTE and VoLTE and has a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button
For photography, there is a rear facing 16MP camera with RWB sensor, 6-element lens, f/1.8 aperture, 1080p video recording and there is also Laser AutoFocus and Phase Detection AutoFocus. For image editing there is the latest Image 2.0 software, which includes text recognition algorithms.
The Gionee S8 has integrated AKM3961 chip and the 70dB dual mic for high quality sound and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with the company’s Amigo 3.2 UI ontop (version 4.0 will arrive in June. The company also includes a unique feature that allows logging into two different whatsapp accounts (Work and Personal) possible.
