Along with the LaVie S tablet, NEC also announced a 2-in-1 Unltrabook/tablet device with detachable keyboard and be used as a tablet. Dubbed the NEC LaVie U, the device comes with an option of choosing different versions – one with a digitised stylus pen or another version without it.
The NEC LaVie U feaures a 11.6 inch 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS LCD screen with LED backlight, powered by an Intel Core M Broadwell low-power processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of Solid state drive, USB 3.0, micro HDMI, microSDXC card slots, 2MP front camera, 5MP rear camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, stereo speakers and microphone jack.
The model with the digitised stylus pen is the PC-LU550TSS which weighs 795 grams and the PC-LU350TSS which does not have the stylus pen 822 grams and the detachable keyboard weighs 560 grams. The LaVie U measures 301.1 x 192.5 x 9.6mm and runs on Windows 8.1 64-bit and has a battery capacity of around 8.2 hours. The device also comes pre-installed with MS Office Home and Business Premium with the Office 365 offer.
The ultrabook/tablet would come in Sparkling Silver colour option only and is expected to launch in Japan in November with a staring price of around $1490. Like other NEC devices, the LaVie U is more like a Japan exclusive device.
