NextBit has announced the self acclaimed only ‘cloud-first smartphone’ – the NextBit Robin. The device is available on Kickstarter, early backers would get the device for $299 but the final retail price is $399. Shipping should start by February 2016 in either Mint or Midnight colour options.
The NextBit Robin has 32GB space of internal storage and 100GB of Cloud storage space. The device brings Cloud storage to Android which sees the phone offload unused apps and photos to the cloud but they would be restored instantly once they are needed.
By default, the phone learns apps that are uses regularly to create free space on the phone and backup can be done by either Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity. The device is expected to ship the latest Android Marshmallow OS (or Android Lollipop OS with promised update via OTA).
Under the hood, the NextBit Robin is powered by the same hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor used on the LG G4 with 3GB of RAM, 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS LCD display, Dual front facing speakers and is backed by a 2680mAh battery with fast charging features.
On the back, the 13MP camera with Dual Tone flash and Phase detection AutoFocus (PDAF) and a 5MP front facing camera. Connectivity options on the Robin includes – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and 4G LTE. It measures 149 x 72 x 7mm in dimensions and has a fingerprint sensor.
Top official for NextBit are veterans in the smartphone industry – the CEO, Tom Moss was the former Worldwide Head of Business Development and Partnerships for Android; the CTO, Mike Chan was an engineer working on Android power management and Scott Croyle, the Chief of Product worked at hardware section of HTC.
