At today’s Apple event, creator of Super Mario Bros. and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto took to the stage to announce the first traditional Nintendo game for mobile – Super Mario Run. The new mario-themed game is exclusive to iOS (iPhone and iPad) with no word on Android release.
Super Mario Run on iOS is a bit different from the traditional one, as only one hand is needed for control and it is a paid to acquire game with zero in-game purchases promised. The game involves the collection of coins and this is done by tapping the screen to make Mario run and jump. The longer the tap, the higher the jump.
Also, the longer the run, the more coins collected and each stage is completed on getting to the end of the flag. Asides all the running activities, coins collected can be used to customise a mushroom kingdom and the Toad Race Mode allows friends join in the actionin an improvised asynchronous multiplayer.
Asides from the not-so successful Miitomo, Nintendo has been reluctant in bringing it’s iconic characters and games to mobiles, despite calls from investors and analysts. The Super Mario run will be available on the App Store later this year in time for the holiday seasons (maybe December).
