Yesterday at the #ExpectMore launch event in Dubai, HMD Global announced the Nokia 8.1 – the confirmed global version of the Nokia X7 (China only) and successor to the Nokia 7 Plus. It has a superb combo of glass and premium looking, dual tone anodised metal frame, and arrives in Blue Silver, Iron Steel and Steel Copper colours.
The Nokia 8.1 comes pre-loaded with Android 9 Pie (joins other Android One phones by Nokia) and relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core 10nm processor. It sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ PureDisplay with 18.7:9 aspect ratio, 96% color gamut, 500 nits brightness, 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and HDR10 support.
The main camera setup has a primary 12MP f/1.8 camera with 1/2.55″ Sony IMX363 sensor, OIS and ZEISS Optics, paired with a secondary 13MP f/2.2 camera for portrait shots. Both cameras use dual-tone LED flash, AI and have 4K video capture and Bothie feature.
The wide front notch shelters the 20MP f/2.0 adaptive selfie camera with four-to-one pixel binning. The device packs 4GB LPDDR4X RAM, 64GB built-in expandable storage, microSD card slot, USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack and power is supplied by a 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging.
The Nokia 8.1 will go on sale for £379.99 (€399 / $450) in the UK and Europe next year (January 14). It will be released later this month in the Middle East starting with the UAE from December 15 priced at AED 1,499 and in other countries there from December 20.
