The future of the android based Nokia X and its varieties Nokia X+ and Nokia XL looked bleak when Microsoft took over the mobile arm of Nokia. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced its is continuing the Nokia X Android Based smartphone and its set to follow up with the Nokia X2 / Nokia X2DS (RM-1013).
Microsoft is looking to continue the android based phones at the entry level markets while its targeting its Windows phone to the higher levels. Like most Android phones the Nokia X2 would feature a home button which is a missing feature on the first generation of Nokia X series.
As spotted on Antutu, The Nokia X2 is expected to run on a forked version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and would feature a 4.3-inch display with 800 x 480 pixels. The Nokia X2 would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 with capability between 300-1190MHz with adreno 305 GPU.
Other features include 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal Storage expandable with micro SD support, 5MP rear camera, 0.3MP front facing camera. In terms of connectivity the Nokia X2 is expected to share the same or slightly different connectivity options.
Earlier this year, Nokia announced the Nokia X, X+ and XL at the MWC 2014. The first ever android smartphone from Nokia, based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Both the Nokia X and X+ sports a 4-inch 800 x 480 pixels display, powered by a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 4GB of inbuilt storage (expandable up to 32GB with micro SD), 3MP rear camera and powered by 1500mAh. The difference between the Nokia X and X+ is in terms of its RAM, the Nokia X has a ram of 512MB while the Nokia X+ has 768MB RAM.
The Nokia XL on the other hand, features a 5-inch 480×800 display, 5MP rear camera, 768MB RAM and 2000mAH. The Nokia XL however shares other specifications with the Nokia X and Nokia X.
Though on the android platform, the Nokia X2 and Nokia X has some omitted features: the Google Play store is replaced with Nokia’s own Android App store, Microsoft Outlook replaces Gmail, Nokia Maps replaces Google Maps, Bing is the default web search option and Google service have been replaced with Microsoft and Nokia services.
