After several rumours surfaced online that popular Note taking service – Springpad is throwing in the towel; the company has finally confirmed these reports in a blog post. The Boston-based company is calling it quits after battling to stand out among other established apps offering virtually similar services.
Exactly on June 25th, 2014 all springpad services would not be available (go offline) starting from the website ‘springpad.com’, all online & sync features of the mobile app would stop working and personal datas of users would no longer be stored on their servers.
The company is working on an export tool for users to be able to help users get their data out and it would be available on their blog. The tool will be used to migrate user data to other services or as a reference to old data.
Reasons behind the closure of Springpad was not stated in the blog post but sources are citing the failure to monetize the fully functional apps as the core reason. The company currently offers Android and iOS apps including a website and a total of over 5 million users.
Other related services to that of Springpad includes EverNote, OneNote, SimpleNote and Google Keep.
