ZTE‘s nubia sub-brand announced the launch of the nubia Z17 Mini at an event in China last week. The 5.2-inch smartphone is equipped with a rear dual camera system, fingerprint sensor (rear placed) and could set the tone for other high-end nubia Z series devices coming this year.
The Nubia Z17 Mini has two 13MP cameras with Sony IMX258 sensor – one for RGB and the other monochrome. Both have f/2.2 aperture, OIS and 4K video recording. The set up has 0.1s ultra fast focus and supports aperture adjustment from f/1.0 to f/16.0. The front selfie camera is a 16MP snapper with f/2.0 aperture and 80-degree wide-angle lens.
Pre-installed with Nubia UI 4.0 based on Android Marshmallow OS, the smartphone sports a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) FHD 2.5D curved glass display with 1500:1 contrast ratio and 85% NTSC color gamut. It has a unibody metal design, measures 146.65 x 72.5 x 7.45 mm, weighs 155 grams and power is supplied by a 2950mAh battery with fast charging.
On the inside, either an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 or Snapdragon 653 processor tends to proceedings alongside either 6GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage space (expandable up to 200GB via microSD. There is also a cheaper 4GB RAM option with the same storage space size.
The Nubia Z17 Mini is equipped with a USB Type-C port and supports 4G VoLTE, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/GLONASS, and NFC. In terms of pricing, the 4GB RAM Snapdragon 652 version costs CNY 1699 (USD 246) while the 6GB RAM Snapdragon 653 one sells for CNY 1999 (USD 289).
Both options are available in Black + Gold, Champagne Gold, Elegant Black and Red colours. Pre-orders are currently on-going in China and sales commences April 13th.
