nubia, a brand associated with ZTE, has unveiled a new flagship Z-series smartphone – the nubia Z30 Pro. Similar to high-end devices like the Samsung Galaxy S21, ASUS ZenFone 8, Vivo X60 Pro+, Xiaomi Mi 11/Mi 11 Ultra and ZTE Axon 30 Ultra, it is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5nm mobile platform for 5G (SA/NSA) connectivity and offers up to 128GB RAM (LPDDR5) and up to 512GB (UFS 3.1) built-in storage.
The nubia Z30 Pro fits in a 6.67-inch FHD+ 20:9 AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, DC dimming, 100 percent DCI-P3 colour space, HDR10+ support, and SGS Low Blue Light Eye Care certification. The front 2.6mm wide punch-hole notch holds the 16MP selfie camera while the fingerprint scanner is embedded into the display. Power is supplied by a 4,200mAh battery with support for a 120W fast charger, which charges full (0 to 100%) in 15 minutes.
Photography is handled by a quad-rear camera setup which consists of three 64MP cameras and a Periscope camera. The setup includes a 64MP (f/1.6, Sony IMX686, OIS) main camera, a second 64MP (f/1.9, 120° FOV) ultra-wide-angle camera, a third 64MP camera (35mm) and final 8MP (OIS) periscope camera for 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom. The camera configuration is closely similar to the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra and shoots 8K videos at 30fps.
The smartphone arrives with the nubia UI 9.0 (based on Android 11) pre-loaded and connectivity options include – Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C and Wi-Fi 6. The rest include dual stereo speakers with DTS: X Ultra audio but no 3.5mm audio jack, however, the company included a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter in the box. Pricing starts at CNY 4,999 for the 8GB + 256GB base model; CNY 5,399 for the 12GB + 256GB model and finally, CNY 5,999 for the top-of-the-line model (16GB + 512GB). They go on sale in China starting May 25 in either Black or Silver colours.
