NVIDIA has spread its tentacles to prove its appeal to mobile gamers, the Santa Clara based company has officially announced the Shield Tablet.
“If you’re a gamer and you use a tablet, the Nvidia Shield tablet was created specifically for you,” said Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s CEO. “It delivers exceptional tablet performance and unique gaming capabilities to keep even the most avid gamers deeply immersed, anywhere they play.”
The main talking point of the Shield Tablet is its Tegra K1 processor with its 192 GPU cores. The device runs on the Nvidia Tegra K1 192 core Kepler GPU, 2.2 GHz ARM Cortex A15 CPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage variants which is expandable up to 128GB via micro SD.
The tablets also packs a 8-inch (1920×1200) multi-touch Full HD display, front facing stereo speakers, built in microphone, 5MP front and rear cameras. The device is powered by a 19.75 Wh battery which provides about 10hours of HD video playback and 2 – 4hours of gaming time depending on graphics intensity.
The device measures 221mm x 126mm x 9.2mm, weighs 390g and runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The NVIDIA shield tablet would be available in two models, the 16GB Wi-Fi only models costs $299 (around N49,000 in Naira) while the 32GB 4G LTE + Wi-Fi model costs $399 (around N65,000 in Naira). The new wireless shield controller which connects with the tablet through Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth is available for $59 (around N10,000 in Naira) due to its lower latency.
The device are expected to launch in the US markets in coming weeks and the UK & European markets by Mid-August.
