On its official blog, Microsoft has announced the names of the upcoming Microsoft Windows 10 Editions. The OS is expected to be available in the Summer in about 190 countries and 111 languages.
In line with its Universal platform goal, Windows 10 would run across devices like PCS, tablets, phones, wearable, surface hub, Microsoft HoloLens as well as other Internet Of things related devices. There would also be a Universal Windows Store which Universal apps can be purchased.
The announced Windows 10 Editions are – Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Education, Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise and Windows 10 IoT Core.
The Windows 10 Home is the consumer-focused edition which is targeted at personal use and families uses on PCS, 2-in-1s and tablets. This version brings Cortana, Microsoft Edge, Windows Hello face recognition and other universal apps. It would also integrate XBox One gaming experience.
The Windows 10 Mobile is one of the most anticipated; it is expected to run on touch-based phones and small tablets. It comes with the same Universal apps with a much more touch-based experienced and a tailored version of Office. Customers would also be able to take advantage of the Continuum for phone feature which let’s a device be used like a PC when connected to a screen.
Windows 10 Pro is targeted at Small business owners while the Windows 10 Enterprise is targeted at medium and large scale business owners. Both version build on the Windows 10 Home version with more enhanced features to meet the diverse needs of businesses. It works across PCS, 2-in-1s and tablets.
Windows 10 Education like it’s name suggests would be available primarily for schools to meet the needs of different stakeholders in the education sector starting with the students. It would be available through Academic Volume licensing.
Next up is the Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise which would appeal to business customers on smartphones and tablets. There is also Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprises for other industry devices such as Industrial robots, ATMS, handheld terminals and retail point of sales. Not being left out the Internet of Things (IoT) trend, there would also be Windows 10 IoT Core to take care of this.
Microsoft has already announced that full versions of the Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Pro would be available as free upgrades for windows 7, windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices which upgrade in the first year of launch.
