OnePlus has unveiled its new 9 line-up of smartphones – the OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R. The trio kickstarts the brand’s collaboration with Hasselblad for the cameras and they use top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processors (870 and 888) whilst also featuring super-fast wired and wireless technology. They all come preloaded with OxygenOS 11 (based on Android 11) and feature AMOLED displays.
OnePlus 9 Pro
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform, the OnePlus 9 Pro is the crown jewel of the series. It has a 6.7-inch LTPO (E4 AMOLED) QHD+ display with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which the company calls Fluid Display 2.0, and Hyper Touch technology to ensure up to 360Hz faster response time. It supports global 5G connectivity, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage and comes equipped with OnePlus Cool Play, an improved five-layer gaming-grade cooling system for heat dissipation.
The highlight of the device is the rear cameras which are calibrated by OnePlus and Hasselblad. The 48MP primary camera with custom-designed IMX789 sensor and large 1/1.4” sensor is paired with 50MP ultrawide camera with 1/1.56” Sony IMX766 sensor, 8MP telephoto camera with OIS and 30x digital zoom, a final monochrome camera to add detail to black and white photos. The cameras have the Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad for accurate and natural-looking photos.
The Pro is backed by a 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65T (from 1 – 100% in 29 mins) and Warp Charge 50 Wireless (1-100% in 43 minutes). The power adapter can be used to turbo charge other mobile devices and PC up to 45W (USB PD or PPS). The OxygenOS 11 on-board brings Turbo Boost 3.0 memory optimization to ensure RAM compression, IP68-rating and three colour options: Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black.
OnePlus 9
The OnePlus 9 has most of the specs of the Pro model, however, it has the same 6.55-inch Flat display with FHD+ screen resolution as the OnePlus 8T. The display supports up to 1,100nits brightness, HDR10+ and the 120Hz screen refresh rate is non-adaptive. It also has the same battery and fast wired charging as the 9 Pro; however, it only supports 15W Qi wireless charging outside China (North America and Europe). It is available in Arctic, Astral Black and Winter Mist colours.
OnePlus 9R
The OnePlus 9R is released to cater for the Indian market. It has the same display as the non-pro 9 series model and OnePlus 8T, and the global 5G connectivity on-board is provided by the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system coupled with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 mobile platform. Power is supplied by the same 4,500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65W fast charging.
Photography is handled by a quad camera setup made up of a 48MP (f/1.7, OIS + EIS) primary camera with Sony IMX586 sensor paired with 16MO (f/2.2) ultrawide, 5MP macro and 2MP monochrome cameras. The front camera is also a 16MP (f/2.4, EIS) camera with 1/1.43″ Sony IMX471 sensor. The 9R will arrive in Carbon Black and Lake Blue colour options.
