OnePlus recently announced the OnePlus 7 premium smartphone series – the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. The three variants have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 7nm mobile platform with Qualcomm AI Engine on the inside and come pre-loaded with the company’s OxygenOS (based on Android 9 Pie).
OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G
The launch focused on the OnePlus 7 Pro which has a large 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display with QHD+ screen resolution (first for OnePlus), HDR10/HDR10+ support, 90Hz refresh rate, Night Mode 2.0 and on-screen fingerprint sensor with 0.21s unlock time. Having achieved DIsplayMate’s highest A+ rating, the company reiterate that the display is one of the best in the market.
For the best sound quality, it is equipped with a stereo dual-speaker system with an enlarged power amplifier and power is supplied by a 4,000mAh battery with Warp Charge 30, which boosts the battery up to almost 50-percent in 20 minutes. The device packs 12GB of RAM, RAM Boost, UFS 3.0 storage, Haptic Vibration for powerful feedback and 10-layer liquid-based cooling system.
Photography is handled by a triple rear camera system made up of a primary 48MP (f/1.6, OIS, EIS) Sony IMX586 sensor paired with an 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) telephoto lens and a 16MP (f/2.2, 117°) ultra-wide-angle lens for 3x optical zoom. The setup shoots 4K videos at 30/60 fps, enjoys Multi Autofocus (PDAF + LAF + CAF), Dual LED flash and features such as UltraShot, Nightscape, Portrait, Pro Mode, Panorama, HDR, AI Scene Detection and RAW Image.
The Pro variant also has a 16MP (f/2.0) pop-up camera with support for face unlock. The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G has the same specs as the Pro variant but adds the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem for 5G connectivity. OnePlus is leveraging its partnership with EE to launch the device in the UK.
OnePlus 7
The OnePlus 7 has some of the internals as the Pro model but offers up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB 48MP (f/1.7, PDAF, OIS, EIS) + 5MP (f/2.4) Dual rear cameras, 16MP selfie camera in the waterdrop notch with face unlock support and Bluetooth 5.0. It sports a 6.41-inch 19.5:9 Optic AMOLED display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass and a 3,700mAh battery with 5V/4A fast charge technology.
Pricing and Availability
- In the UK, the OnePlus 7 Pro starts from GBP 649 (June) for the base 6GB + 128GB model; GBP 699 for the 8GB + 256GB and GBP 799 for the 12GB + 256GB model. The regular OnePlus 7 starts at GBP 499 (May 21) for the 6GB + 128GB model and GBP 549 for the 8GB + 256GB model. There is no word on the pricing for the 5G model, but it will be available exclusively via EE.
- In the US, the OnePlus 7 Pro is priced at US$ 669 for the 6GB + 128GB model; US$ 699 for the 8GB + 256GB model and US$ 749 for the 12GB + 256GB model. The OnePlus Bullet Wireless 2 is available for US$ 99. No word on the release of the 5G model in markets outside the UK.
