Popular Japanese luxury consumer electronics manufacturer – Onkyo, known for premium home cinema and audio equipment, has ventured into the mobile device industry with its new smartphone. Dubbed the Onkyo Granbeat, the Android OS device is a blend of a digital audio player and smartphone, which is aimed at providing the most advanced audio experience ever. See below for full details.

Housed in an all aluminium metal body, the Onkyo Granbeat has almost the same audio function and quality as the DP-X1A digital audio player. It has two outputs – a 3.5mm audio jack and a 2.5mm 4 pole jack, physical volume adjustments (Play/Pause/Forward/Rewind/Off) on the right side and volume adjustment knob on the left.
The audio board integrates 2x ESC SABRE DAC ES9018C2M and 2x AMP SABRE 9601K manufactured by ESS. To prevent electromagnetic noise interference, the components are arranged in three separate enclosure. It also supports a wide range of audio formats and there are two drives to choose from.
The device is also pre-loaded with Onkyo’s proprietary audio controls and backed by a 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, which delivers up to 1320 minutes of continuous talk time, 480 hours of standby and 25 hours of audio playback. It is expected to arrive later this month (February) on Rakuten Mobile for a tax-exclusive price tag of JPY 84,800 (US$ 740).
