Global market research firm, IDC has released the numbers for Q1 2016. While Samsung, Apple and Huawei keep their places in the top 5 smartphone vendors list, there are new entrants in the new list. Oppo and Vivo have displaced fellow Chinese companies – Lenovo and Xiaomi from the list to make top 5.
According to IDC Q1 2016 report, Oppo and Vivo now sit at the fourth and fifth positions behind Samsung, Apple and Huawei respectively. Oppo saw 153.2% year-over-year change shipping a total of 18.5 million units while Vivo saw 123.8% year-over-year change and a total of 14.3 million units.
Although still short of its goal in surpassing Samsung and Apple, Huawei also record an increase – 58.4% year-over-year change and shipping a total of 27.5 million units. Apple saw its ever first year-over-year decline in the first quarter (-16.3%) while Samsung also saw a slight decline (-0.6%).
Currently Apple (15.3%), Huawei (8.2%), Samsung (24.5%) hold almost half of the total market share for the first quarter of 2016 while Oppo (5.5%) and Vivoe (4.3%) hold about 10%. The total number of smartphone units shipped in the quarter stand at 334.9 million, this translate to a slight increase (0.2%) from the 334.3 million posted around the same time last year.
