During an event celebrating ColorOS’ 5th anniversary in Shezhen, China, OPPO unveiled the latest instalment of its Android UI – ColorOS 6.0. The company also confirmed that the popular launcher is used across 140 countries and regions by nearly 250 million users.
Similar to Samsung’s One UI and Xiaomi’s MIUI 10, ColorOS 6.0 is designed to provide a better navigating experience on bezel-less phones but also works well with older OPPO devices with traditional screens. For less clutterness, the UI has been revamped with new white background and light gradient colours.
One of the key features of the UI is its Machine Learning capabilities. The AI application quick freeze is expected to learn the user’s application usage pattern and freeze apps in the background rather than closing them. It also reduces power consumption by up to 7-percent.
There is also a new font called ‘OPPO Sans’, which was developed in partnership with Chinese font company named Hanyi. The new font has a more modern feel and the icons and animations have been changed. OPPO is also bringing a ‘Game Sounder’ function to ColorOS.
OPPO has not confirmed the number of devices that will get ColorOS 6.0. It will likely be based on Android 9 Pie and will not arrive until 2019.
