OPPO’s R17 smartphone series – which already has the R17 and R17 Pro – has a new addition in-form of the OPPO R17 Neo. The device is the first to debut in Japan with an in-display fingerprint sensor and is available on contract for JPY 3,218 (US$ 29) per month via UQ Mobile or a one-off fee of JPY 38,988 (US$ 346 or EUR 305) – with tax included.
The OPPO R17 Neo is based on the original R17 but the less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 4GB of RAM has been chosen over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 with 6/8GB of RAM. It retains the 128GB built-in storage space and a microSD slot which support cards up to 256GB.
The device’s 16MP + 5MP rear camera setup has also been downgraded to 16MP + 2MP but the front facing 25MP camera with various AI features remains the same. It is backed by a larger 3,600mAh battery with OTG support and is compatible with Japan’s carrier especially UQ Mobile.
The rest of the specs include a 6.4-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels) Full HD+ AMOLED display with waterdrop notch, 91% screen-to-body ratio, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.
