Inno Day 2020: OPPO X 2021 Concept Smartphone with Extendable Display

Either by unveiling concepts or showing-off prototypes, it is steadily becoming a regular occurrence for device manufacturers to push the limits at which these devices can attain. At the now concluded Inno Day 2020 event, OPPO threw its hat into the concept ring with the launch of the world’s first smartphone with extending display – the OPPO X 2021 Concept. The company also announced other projects – the OPPO AR Glass 2021 and OPPO CybeReal.

OPPO X 2021 Concept

Powered by OPPO’s rollable concept technology, the OPPO X 2021 Concept has a large 6.7-inch OLED display with a unique feature which spreads out into a larger 7.4-inch display when extended. With this technology, the display will be more durable because it won’t have the middle the creases usually associated with most foldable smartphones. The OLED panel technology is a proprietary roll motor powertrain paired with an under-display Warp Track high-strength screen laminate and 2-in-1 plate structure to support the device on both sides when it extends.

The company also confirmed it applied for 122 patents during the development of the device and about 12 of them is related to the rolling mechanism in the device.

OPPO AR Glass 2021 and CybeReal

OPPO’s new AR Glass adopts the Birdbath optical technology for increased contrast (up to 53%), uniform brightness (up to 98%) and 40% pixels per degree. It has a built-in 0.71-inch OLED display, binocular fish-eye cameras, customized large amplitude speaker and unique semi-open rear cavity acoustic design. It is also 75% lighter than last year’s model and features OPPO’s Breeno voice assistant.

OPPO’s CybeReal AR app is powered by real-time, SLAM spatial calculation technology, incorporates OPPO Cloud computing and utilises the phone’s ‘GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IMU Information’ to offer real-time high-precision positioning and scene recognition. At this point, it is still unknown when any of these devices or innovation will make its way into the market.
