Pebble has announced a new smartwatch with a color display; the Pebble Time is a $179 smartwatch which is currently available on kickstarter. Users would benefit from the device’s long battery life, compability with different platforms and ability to customise the device to your taste.
The Pebble Time uses a display with e-paper technology but is not touchscreen enabled. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass and has stainless steel bezels which see the thinness of the device reduced to 9.5mm. Despite the display being always on and color added, it would provide seven straight days of usage on a single charge.
There is a built in microphone on the Time which makes replying notifications and taking voice notes easy. The voice typing is also said to have worked for Facebook, Google Hangouts, Gmail, Whatsapp and Facebook messenger.
It is compatible with Android OS (Android 4.0+ up) and Apple iOS (Apple iOS 7 up) platforms and it would run over 6500 apps out-of-the-box thanks to its cross-platform compatibility. It comes with a quick strap release mechnism to change the watch bands. It is expected to start shipping in May, early backers can get it for $159, while the final retail price is $199 once the funding campaign is over.
Pebble is one of the earliest smartwatch maker even before the current wearable menace began and the company still manages to be one of the best smartwatch maker around.
