Philips debuts Sapphire S616 and Sapphire Life V787 with SoftBlue tech in China

Long stares are smartphones could translate into fatigue and eye strain due to the amount of Blue light emitted by the display. Philips has announced two new smartphones using the SoftBlue technology in China – the Philips Sapphire S616 and Philips Sapphire Life V787.

The concept of the SoftBlue technology involves reducing the amount of blue light coming from the smartphone screen by up to 86% thus giving room for less eye straining. 

Philips Sapphire S616

Powered by an octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor clocked at 1.3GHz with Mali T720 GPU, the Philips Sapphire S616 packs a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage space and a 3000mAh battery. 

It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, has Dual SIM slots, a microSD card slot (up to 128GB), 4G LTE connectivity, front facing 5MP camera and a 13MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture, LED flash. It is expected to go on sale in November for a CNY 1399 ($222) in China. 

Philips Sapphire Life V787

The Sapphire S616 and the Sapphire Life V787 have the same specs except for a few changes. It has a 5-inch display with the same FHD resolution, a bigger 5000mAh battery with the company’s Xenium technology that lets it provide up to 47 hours of talk time.

The device also has a 13MP camera but it now comes with Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), allowing it to focus in less than a second (0.2s). It will be available by the end of November but there is no word on pricing.
