Philips i966 Aurora Smartphone with QHD display, 20.7MP camera and YunOS 3.0

The Philips i966 Aurora is the latest flagship smartphone from the company and the first smartphone to run Alibaba’s YunOS 3.0 custom firmware. The smartphone was announced in Beijing along with the YunOS 3.0 which is actually a forked version of Android, has a 2K display, 20.7MP rear camera and a fingerprint scanner.

Specs-wise, the Philips i966 Aurora features a 5.5-inch (2560×1440 pixels) Quad HD display with 2.5D arc glass body, slim bezels with 63.8% screen-to-body ratio and Corning gorilla glass protection. Under the hood is a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor with Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, no microSD card slot for expansion.

On the rear is a Is a 20.7MP camera Sony IMX220 Exmor RS sensor with 6-element lens, f/1.8 aperture and a solid 8MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity options on the Philips i966 Aurora includes – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 3G and 4G LTE.

Like most flagship devices this year, the Philips i966 Aurora also comes with a fingerprint sensor which the company tips to work even on wet hand due to high sensitivity. The device packs a 3000mAh battery and as earlier mention runs on YunOS 3.0.

For those who are tired of Windows Phone, iOS, Android and did I mention Blackberry? The YunOS could be an alternative for you. Currently, The Philips i966 Aurora is available in China for a retail price tag of 3699 Chinese Yuan (~ US$600; €469) on Tmall. But no word if the device would see an international roll-out.
