Philips has teased an image about its upcoming Philips S396 Selfie focused smartphone for China, which would come with a front 8MP camera. The device itself has not appeared in pictures so it is hard to tell the body build or even the design.
The Philips S396 features a 5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. There is a Gigabyte of RAM Handling tasks and 8 Gigabytes space of expandable internal storage. It runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS, supports 4G LTE and is expected to pack a reasonable battery.
The front and rear cameras are both 8MP snappers, however, we have seen selfie smartphones with 13MP cameras like the HTC Desire Eye, ASUS Zenfone Selfie, BLU Selfie, Micromax Canvas Selfie and Meitu M4. The rear camera has a LED flash but it is unknown if the front one has too. Also there would be some Selfie enhancements to expect from the camera and the company could possibly throw in gesture control.
In terms of specs the Philips S396 doesn’t slay in this aspect as we are dealing with a nearly midrange device and the pricing would of course determine whether it would gain traction or it would just be another dust gathering device on shelfs.
