Pipo and Rockchip has collaborated to announced the Pipo P9 which would come with an interesting OS called Light Work OS. The not-so new OS will be looking to gain a little bit of the tablet market which has seen a steady decline due to to the increase of phablet sized smartphones.
Light Work OS is the handiwork of Rockchip and it is not a new OS entirely. It is a customised version of Android 5.1 Lollipop OS but brings Windows OS like interface and features such as Start Menu, Task Bar and multitasking capabilities just like Jide’s Remix OS.
The Pipo P9 would be the first tablet to run Light Work OS from Rockchip and as expected it is powered by a Rockchip RK3288 processor. It sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels (Full HD), 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage space.
Vividly, China-based Rockchip has Intel’s Windows tablet dominance in sight and thus decided to release an OS which combines the features of Windows to go along with Android. Unsurprisingly, only OEMs from China like Cube, Pipo, Onda and Ramos makes Dual Boot OS (runs Android and Windows OS).
While the Pipo P9 doesn’t run Dual OS, users not interested in the Light Work OS can switch back to stock Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with the Set Switch button. It remains seen how Android apps can run effectively in the multi windows environment and how Light Work OS will break the dominance of low-cost Windows Based Intel powered tablets in the market.
PS: Based on an insider source more tablets would be released by Pipo and Rockchip with the Light Work OS running ontop. We will be looking forward to that.
