At the CES 2016, Pipo showed off a new Windows 10 Mobile tablet – the Pipo U8T. The slate powered by a Rockchip RK3288W processor – a rare sight on Windows Mobile/Phone devices which are mostly powered by a Qualcomm processor.
Rockchip has reportedly entered an agreement with Microsoft, becoming the second ever supplier apart from Qualcomm to supply mobile SoC for devices running mobile version of its OS. The agreement is still limited to tablets with the entirety of Windows Phones powered by a Qualcomm processor.
The devices will have screen size range from 6 – 9 inches, either 16GB or 32GGB built-in storage, up to 4GB RAM and the Quad-core Rockchip RK3288W processor.
The SoC which is a collaboration between Intel and Rockchip, does not have an integrated mobile broadband, so they are basically Wi-Fi only but spokesman for the company does not rule out the option of 4G LTE modules being added.
The Pipo U8T is not entirely a new tablet as there is a model already selling the market. However this model sports a 7.85-inch display, runs Windows 10 Mobile OS, powered by a quad-core Rockchip RK3288W processor with ARM Mali-T760 GPU, 1GB RAM and 16GB built-in storage.
The rest of the U8T specs includes – micro SD slot, 1024 x 768 pixels screen resolution , Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and micro USB v2.0. Another model of the tablet with Best Buy brading, has a 7.85-inch Retina display, Rockchip RK3288W SOC, 32GB built-in storage and 2GB RAM.
