Chinese TV-based company, PPTV has marked it’s foray into the smartphone world with its first smartphone. The company has launched the king series which includes the PPTV King 7s and PPTV King 7 (the non 3D display version). Both devices are priced at CNY 2699 ($424) and CNY 2199 ($346) respectively.
The company was present at the recently IFA 2015 event in Berlin to showcase it’s products and asides selling its phones in China, the company is also eyeing global expansion.
Moving to the specs, the PPTV King 7s sports a 6-inch 3D display with a 2K resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) resulting in a pixel density of 490ppi. The device has an alloy metal body build, the display is covered with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass, 160-degree viewing angle and around 81.37% screen-to-body ratio.
Under the hood, it is powered by an octa-core Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit processor clocked at 2GHz with PowerVR G6200 GPU, 3GB of RAM and up to 32GB internal storage option. For additional storage, there is a microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB.
On the back, there is a 13MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor with 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture and Dual-LED flash; the front facing snapper is a 8MP camera with f/2.2 large aperture and 84-degree wide angle to capture wide selfies. Since the main camera is a Single unit, the device cannot take 3D photos.
The PPTV King 7s supports 2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and 4G TDD-LTE networks; has two front facing speakers with ESS ES9018K2M chip for good audio output. The device uses a Hybrid Dual SIM (Micro + Nano) slot with one of the slots acting as a microSD card, backed by a 3610mAh battery with fast charging and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Poly UI ontop.
The PPTV King 7s has a glasses free 3D panel which is the only difference between it and the PPTV King 7; the former is the first device to use 3D panel on a QHD or 2k display. Users would be able to enjoy 3D videos and photos without requiring a 3D glass.
Can I watch any videos in 3d? Can we have more insight on how the. 3D works?
We would love to explain more but most of the press release available is in Chinese or Mandarin. We had to make do with the little translation we could.
There is a fixed parallax barrier screen, works the same as on the htc evo 3d and lg optimus 3d phones but those could switch that on or off. A 3d image will be displayed column interlaced, odd pixels left image,even pixels right image.
Videos would have to be side by side half and will be shown column interlaced.
